Director of Safety and Risk Management
Buddy Burton began his career with SeaWorld San Diego in 1980. His related work experience spans a thirty year period to include his current role as Director, EHS. As a long-term member of the senior management team, he is responsible for both the strategic development of safety programming and tactical execution of critical loss prevention initiatives.
His responsibilities include regulatory compliance, litigation management, communication of critical issues, and ensuring the safety of SeaWorld employees and guests. He manages the park's safety climate, develops leadership training and large scale safety programs. In addition to teaching and developing the park's safety leaders, he also oversees a 40-person health and safety team. He is also responsible for the park's Environmental programs.
Prior to joining SeaWorld Buddy worked as a heavy duty equipment mechanic. He was one of the park's original Hydrofoil Mechanics on Mission Bay and worked as a mechanic on the park's iconic Skytower.
He is a member of the following organizations: ASSE, RIMS, ASTM F-24 committee, California Attractions and Parks Associations (Board Member), American Society of Amusement Park Safety and Security, IAAPA. Certified user of the English XL Tribometer (slipmeter).
